GIDBlog comments are spam-free
After many months analysing GIDBlog.com comment spam data, I am pleased to announce that we finally have this problem under control now.
Almost all regular comments are spam-free now, and the only type of spam that I am still struggling with, is the trackback or pingback comment spam. This is proving to be a bit more tricky to manage right now, but I am getting there.
What happens when a comment is filtered as spam?
At the moment, any web log comment that is filtered as spam will be marked as such in our database and simply stored away - you will not be notified about it nor will you need to moderate these types of comments. I think this is the ideal solution because I know I don’t want to receive 100 emails a day simply telling me another comment was blocked. Of course, as administrator of this free blog hosting site, I will periodically monitor and review a random number of comments (marked as spam) to weed out any false positives.
As anyone who has ever written a spam filter will tell you, development on this filter will be an on-going process, and it may not even work all the time. If you suddenly notice a spike in spam comments getting through to your blog, please post your comment below, or in the official GIDBlog forum.
